In the Bible, Jesus Himself teaches us of Thanksgiving
when He and the 12 Apostles gathered together for the Passover.
This is written in Luke 22:14,15,17 and 19.

14-"And when the hour was come, He sat down, and the 12 apostles with Him." (This is where He gathered with His friends for the Lord's Supper.)
15-"And He said unto them, WITH DESIRE I HAVE DESIRED TO EAT THIS PASSOVER WITH YOU BEFORE I SUFFER." (The Lord Himself said that He desired---DESIRED--- to eat with them before He died. Here Jesus teaches us the importance of gathering with those close to us. Even though He knew what He was to face, He had a great desire to do so. He desired their company and the eating of His last meal with them. This tells us that He was THANKFUL for their presence and for the time He had with them. He made each moment count.)
17-"And He took the cup, and GAVE THANKS and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves." ( Here Jesus is sharing, with others as we should, and THANKING the Father for His Blessing of bountiful fruit that allowed them to drink of the vine, together.)
19-"And He took the bread, and GAVE THANKS, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is My body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me". (Here He teaches us to be thankful for all that He has done for us. He knew He was fixing to die, and yet He took the time to share and GIVE THANKS before He gave His life. You see, He knew that He was to die on that cross for us to have a chance for Salvation. Everlasting life. For that we are to be THANKFUL --- first and foremost.)

There is a great lesson in this scripture. It is not only for understanding of the Last Supper in the well known reasoning of His GREAT SACRIFICE for us, but for the THANKSGIVING THAT WE SHOULD PRACTICE AMONG OUR SELVES AND THOSE WE HOLD DEAR TO OUR HEARTS.

To me, this is what Thanksgiving is all about. The gathering of friends and family. The sharing and giving, the humble hearts------The remembrance of what Jesus did for us all.
